If you want to make yourself scared and depressed an easy way to get there quickly is to read about how our ecosystem is collapsing due to the amount of resources we as humans are demanding from the earth. Populations around the world use more resources daily than are ever replenish. Some countries (I'm looking at you United States) use far more than others and the earth is not made of infinite resources. Eventually, water, food, and even air will no longer be suitable for sustaining life. The scary part isn't that this will eventually happen, the scary part is that we may be only decades away from some of these statistics.
Looking over this infographic put together by a team at playgroundequipment.com, you can see just how dire our situation has become. A few that jump out to me are, Number 1: We would need 1.77 planet Earths to sustain our current demand for resources and absorb our waste. Number 4: 2050 is the year when there could be more plastic in the ocean than fish. Number 17: The amount of time left until the world could run out of freshwater. Any of these 26 statistics are a nightmare. All we can do as a society is our small part to recycle, reuse and try to use renewable energy.
