history of High-Value U.S. Currency: The Bills That Plastic Forgot

Imagine what it would be like to carrying a $100,000 bill around! Well these days all of us use only plastic money. There was a time when some of the richest people used to carry the bills of $10,000, $5,000.

These denominations were mainly used for bank to bank transactions and large Federal transactions. Let us look at these forgotten relics which were made obsolete by electronic transactions.

There was $500 bill which featured the President McKinley. $1,000 bill featured President Grover Cleveland and there are 165,372 bills still in circulation. You can see the $5,000 bill in the Smithsonian Museum which was issued as a gold certificate.

And $100,000 bill is the largest ever bill printed by Federal Government.
