
Google's foray into social media began in the year 2003, with the acquisition of Pyra labs.
A brief history of this ambitious project of Google is as under. In the following year - 2004, armed with it latest collaborations such as Friendster, Google launched its famed social network site - Orkut. Simultaneously Gmail was also launched as a beta tester.
Google talk was launched in 2005, followed by Google reader in the same year. In 2006 Google docs was born after acquiring Writely and also Picasa albums. In the same year it acquired You Tube.
The year 2007 was the crucial year for Google's social network dreams. To realise this mega project it went on a spree of acquisitions - Feedburner, GrandCentral, Postini, MySpace, Zingk and, Jaiku.
The year 2008 up till 2009 saw google launching a variety of mobile integrated social media sites such as Google wave, Google Latitude and Google voice. Finally, in the year 2010, Google Buzz was launched as a highly functional social network site.
