What kind of future will humanity face? That is the topic most often taken on my science fiction. Will we be enslaved by robots? Will we ultimately find peace and harmony amongst ourselves and move on to tackle humanity’s biggest problems? One way to see the future through Science Fiction eyes is by looking at the future of vision.
On Star Trek’s The Next Generation series, Geordi Laforge is blind from birth but is able to see through the use of his VISOR. Humanity had come together and put their quarrels to rest and set about solving the world’s problems, including making sure a baby born blind would be able to one day realize his full potential. It’s a positive view of the future of humanity.
In Ready Player One, on the other hand, poor people are literally stacked on top of each other in the post-apocalyptic slums and they have to use Virtual Reality to escape the sad reality of their everyday lives.
Which way humanity ultimately goes depends on us.
