Proteins are the nutrients which cause the growth and development of muscles, bones, organs and even our skin, nails and hair. Most people need only about 56 grams of protein per day but in children the requirement is slightly less at 13 to 46 grams per day.
Almonds, black beans, peas, lentils, chick peas, quinoa, whole wheat bread etc are all veritable sources of protein that we need to consume and are met by eating a variety of these plants-based foods.
When comparing them with animal based proteins, eating half a cup of black beans gives us much more protein than a large egg might provide viz., 7 gm as compared to 6 grm.
But just like too much of everything is never too good, so it is with this since too much of protein might be the cause for osteoporosis, kindney stones as well as cancer.
