From the frequent reports on obesity in America, one might assume that their love towards eating, smoking and drinking is unparalleled.
But from statistics provided, we do find that there are 18 other countries who spend much more than the Americans on food, alcohol and tobacco. Here’s an info graphic listing on who spends how much.
On calculating the data taken from the USDA and Euro Monitor International in terms of total amount that residents of various countries spend on food, alcohol and tobacco, it was found that Americans actually spend far less in absolute terms on comestibles.
Whether it is due to higher taxes or shipping costs that just happens to make the same items cost more in other countries or whether the Americans just like to eat, drink and smoke cheap things is again a matter of further research.
