Running being a sport is prone to injuries. In this case it is as high as 50%. There are some commonly occurring injuries in this sport. Achilles heels, Plantar Fasciitis, Shin splints, spinal compression, runner's knee, hamstring strain and muscle pulls.

Runners can avoid injuries by making it a point to warm up before every exercise. Always finish runs with a short walk. Wear the right shoes and keep yourself sufficiently hydrated.

Minor injuries can be treated by resting, ice packs and elevation according to the type of injury. It is also important to exercise while recovering from the injury and not stop it as it will only increase the convalescence period.
