
Methadone is often considered as a synthetic opioid that is prescribed to patients suffering severe chronic pains. The drug is available at cheaper price and due its long duration of action, it is widely used as an analgesic in the medical field.
The drug is usually prescribed in two forms that includes pill form and a liquid form. Methadone pills are effective in treating chronic pain and liquid form of methadone is used to treat patients addicted to opiate drugs such as heroine, marijuana etc.
In the year 2001, over 998 deaths were recored due to intake of methadone drug and the number has raised to 4,000 by the end of 2005.
On consuming methadone, it takes more than 20 hours for the drug to withdrawal from the body. The physical symptoms of addiction to methadone drug include sleeplessness, drowsiness, sweating, erectile dysfunction, low libido and rashes on the body.
