The Chinese New Year marks the beginning of a fortnight long celebration for the Chinese with family and friends, with full ritualistic ceremonies and traditions. During this fortnight, people would decorate their houses and work places and even the public places with the color red so as to attract good luck and fortune.
The Chinese calendar has twelve months named after various animals who supposedly according to a folktale attended a call by the Jade emperor who in a bid to measure time would name the first 12 animals who would win a swimming race.
