Air Sex was started as a performance activity by a group of bored young single men in Tokyo, Japan. This competition involves an enactment where clothed men and women are supposed to stimulate sexual activity with an invisible partner in the most exaggerated manner possible with a background music playing. It can be said to have been inspired by air guitaring.
The contestants are allowed a 2 minute time period in which they are supposed to perform their routine. They are allowed to bring their own music or choose some from the official Air Sex music compilation. Also, they are allowed to bring their own props as well as teams but no kind of nudity is allowed.
