If you commit a crime or get indulged in any criminal activity within the New York City, it is sure that you will be taken through the complex criminal justice system of New York. The process of arresting the criminal begins with picking up the individual and migrating him to one of the NYPD locations or precincts.
Once the individual reaches NYPD precinct, he will be placed in the holding cells along with other prisoners who will be shifted to New York central booking. By considering the facts and circumstances, the arrestees will be either placed in a single cell or a group holding cell.
The process of arresting at NYPD precinct involves gathering the fingerprints and personal information about the criminal. The arresting officer on gathering information from the criminal, enters the same in to Online Booking Sheet System and issues an arrest number for new arrestee.
The AO (Arresting officer) on issuing an arrest number, will check out the databases to trace out whether the arrestee has been involved previously in any other criminal activities, or received any bench arrests, NCIC notices or any VTL offenses.
The arrestee will be then submitted to court and the case will be ready for arraignment. The main purpose of arraignment is to let the arrestee know about their pending charges.
