When you are choosing materials for your woodworking or construction project always opt for FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified timber as it is the sound choice for environmentally and socially conscious companies as well as individuals who seek to make a difference.
The Forest Stewardship Council vets and monitors the activities of logging operations around the world and awards certification only if its strict standards are adhered to. An area the size of the Republic of Ireland gets deforested each year leading to loss of habitat for wildlife and indigenous populations and contributes to climate change.
The slashing and burning of forests and woodlands not only contributes to the greenhouse gas load in the atmosphere but also reduces the planets ability to redress the balance by removing the trees that would ordinarily soak up the excess carbon dioxide again. Timber from FSC certified sources are sustainable and for every tree that is felled, new ones are planted to reduce the pressure on our climate.
