An activity almost 3000 years old, ice skating, in the recent times is used as much for leisure as it is in competitions and sports and can occur both indoors as well as outdoors in specially prepared rinks.
Initially skaters would more or less glide over the ice rather than actually skating in it but now the skaters cut into the ice to skate over it.
In recent times, skating on ice have taken the form of figure skating that was first included in the Olympic games in 1908.
