According to a survey by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, for the third year in a row Australia is the happiest place on earth to live.
So what makes this country so special? Is it the amazing beaches, rain forests, snowy mountains or world-class vineyards?
Perhaps it is the multi-cultural cities packed with designer fashion stores, art galleries, cafés, bars and restaurants. No matter which city you find yourself in, the skyscrapers and shopping strips are just a short drive from mountains, ocean, rivers, desert and the world famous Outback.
But while all these things are what bring tourists to Australia, it is the actual lifestyle that makes people want to stay there.
While Sydney and Melbourne are now considered the third and fourth most expensive cities in the world, Australians also have a high level of disposable income. 73% of those in the 15 to 64 bracket are employed, and compared to the OECD average they work fewer hours in a year.
There's also a great community spirit among the Australians which is probably how the got such a high rate in the life satisfaction category. Couple this with a lower rate of assaults and homicides and it is easy to see how people consider Australia a safe country to live and work in.
Even if money cannot buy you happiness, it will buy you a ticket to Australia where you could sample the lifestyle for yourself. You might enjoy it so much you decide to emigrate.
