The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator assessment is a psychometric questionnaire designed to understand psychological preferences in how people make decisions these preferences were extrapolated from the topological theories proposed by Carl Gustav Jung.
The original developer of the personality inventory was Isabel Briggs Myers; after studying the extensive work of the Jung she has decided to put forth this theory.
She believed that having knowledge of personality preferences would help women who were entering the industrial workforce for the first time to identify the sort of war-time jobs that would be "most comfortable and effective".
The initial questionnaire grew into the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. It focuses on normal populations and emphasizes the value of naturally occurring differences.
The indicator is frequently used in the areas of pedagogy, career counseling, team building, group dynamics, professional development, marketing, family business, leadership training, executive coaching, life coaching, personal development and marriage counseling.
