South African Population which was less than 20 million in the year 1960 gradually increased and reached almost 50 million in the year 2010. Out of this, 25.6 million were women and 24.3 million were men. The majority of the population is concentrated in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Nata where it is more than 10 million in each province. The least populated province is Northern Cape where the number is 1,103,900.
It is said that between 2010 and 2030, the population will grow but at a decreased rate. The annual growth rate of population in SA reported for the year 2010 was 1.35% which is expected to decrease henceforth. The possible reasons for the decline in growth rate could be the impact of HIV/AIDS and Low Fertility Rates.
