Natural gas is a hydrocarbon gas mixture which is found to be naturally occurring and consists of methane and higher alkanes as well. It also has little quantities of nitrogen, hydrogen sulphide and carbon dioxide.
Natural gas is used as an energy source for purposes such as heating, cooking and even electricity generation. Natural gas is generally found underground in natural rock formations and is also found to be associated with hydrocarbon reservoirs in coal beds.
There are several countries which have high deposits of natural gas and some of the largest producers of natural gas have been given as follows:
Russia is the largest natural gas producing country in the entire world and produces about 20% of the total natural gas produced in the world. United States is also a big producer of this resource and produces about 19.2% of the total natural gas. Canada produces 4.7% of the total natural gas and is thus one of the top producers.
With 4.5% and 4.4% share, Qatar and Iran are the other two big producers of natural gas followed by Norway which produces 3.1% and China which produces 3% of the total natural gas produced.
Saudi Arabia is another large natural gas producing country in the world with a share of 2.7%.Indonesia and Netherlands are the other two large natural gas producing nations.
