The Syncrude tailings dam (MLSB) is the largest dam in the entire world and it is located in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada. The Tarbela dam in Pakistan is considered as the second largest dam in the world because it has a reservoir volume of 13.7 [109 m3] as compared to the reservoir volume of 0.35 in the case of Syncrude Tailings dam.
On the third spot is Syncrude Tailings Dam (SWSS) which too is located in Alberta, Canada and has a reservoir volume of 0.25. Fort Peck Dam in Montana, USA is the 4th largest dam in the world and has a total reservoir volume of 23.
On the 5th position is the Ataturk Dam which is located in Turkey and has a structure volume of 84.5 and reservoir volume of 48.7.Flevoland in Netherlands is considered as the 6th largest dam in the world because of the fact that it has a structure volume of 78.
The 7th largest dam in the world is the Oahe Dam. It is located in South Dakota, USA. The 8th largest dam is Gardiner Dam in Canada followed by Mangla Dam in Pakistan and Oroville dam in USA.
