Christmas is the festival of gift-giving and spending quality time with your family and friends. It is one time of the year when people are ready to travel miles in order to spend the holidays with their families and take part in the traditions involved in this so-very special festival.
It might be noted that all festivals have certain traditions that are quite quirky in nature and Christmas is no exception to that either. In the Czech Republic, it is a tradition to throw a shoe over one’s shoulder on Christmas Day and if the shoe lands with its toe pointing towards the shoe, it is accepted that the person would get married soon. On Christmas Eve, Finnish people usually visit the graves of their dead family and relatives to light candles in their memory. But the trophy of the quirkiest of them all should be given to the Ukrainian custom of covering their Christmas trees in fake spiders and artificial cobwebs instead of brightly colored tinsels and ornaments.
