English has been the dominant global language for almost a century. The language is widely used in different fields such as cinema, television, popular music, trade and technology, administration, including the Internet. But is it the language of the future? If Mandarin Chinese is to challenge English globally.
In 2010, there was a huge difference between the number of people using English and those using Chinese. But as China grows by over 36 million internet users in the last year, it would be take less than three years for Chinese to overtake English. In fact, every one of China does not use Chinese online and number English speakers is at whooping rise.
However, market penetration for the internet in English speaking countries is higher than in China. But this gives those coutries much less room to grow. On the other hand, China has relatively low market penetration for English, which results in much more room to expand quickly. Thus Chinese will soon become number one.
