Multitasking, can we actually do it? As a personal trait, we all list multitasking but have we ever thought what brain goes through when we add one more task to the two we are already doing. Although it is because of technology we are where we are, no one can contest the amount of pressure it has put on us.
In 1960, the time we spent on media was 5 hours which has now become 12 hours. Our media exposure has increased so much that we change tasks every 2 minutes. Multitasking may look good on a resume or in an interview but we may not be good at multitasking as much we think. Human brain can manage only two tasks at a time.
The side effects of multitasking are:
- A drop in accuracy
- Unable to filter out irrelevant information
- Difficulty in pulling out information from memory
