Whether you do them yourself, with friends, or go to a salon, having manicured nails always makes your hands look gorgeous. Even more, it is the icing on the cake in creating the perfectly polished look. Before you start fantasizing about your next manicure though, take a good look at your hands and notice the quality of your nails. Depending on what type of nails you have, you will want to change your nail care regimen.
Have brittle nails? You may want to stick with more square shapes, as they help protect your nails more. If you have rock hard nails, feel free to experiment with more oval or even pointed styles, especially since they are more natural looking! For those who love artificial nails, beware of the dangers of using acrylic. Most people do not know that nails are permeable! This means that harmful chemicals contained in nail polish can, and will be, absorbed into your blood stream through your nails.
Most acrylic nail polish is, in fact, full of chemicals that you would not want to be exposed to, like formaldehyde. Next time, your nail technician about the harmful ingredients, or opt for a gel nail polish instead! Color-wise, remember that depending on your skin’s undertones various nail polish colors will complement or clash with your natural hues.
Take the time to do a little research to figure out whether you have cool or warm undertones, and take that into consideration when you’re picking out your next shade. But always remember, the wonder of nail polish is that it is one of the easiest and most affordable parts of our beauty regimen to change. That leopard print didn’t quite suit? Either take it off, or just wait a week or two. No need to go buy a wig. So experiment a little and dare to be different!
