Every year the number of adults who cannot read or write declines. Thanks to greater access of education, young adults much more literate than their parents. But, still millions of children are out of school and millions more are quitting primary school without learning basic skills. And most of the children who are leaving the primary school are girls.
Out of the whole population, illiterate adults account for 774 million and literate adults account for 123 million where the majority of both are Women. A puzzling thing is the number of youth who can read and write is increasing but proportion of illiterate women isn't.
54 million out of 76 million of these women live in the following 9 countries India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of Congo, United Republic of Tanzania, Burkina Faso.
Some parts of the world have seen study increase in the literacy rate but many other parts are facing trouble with stagnation and remain far from the reaching goal of 2015.
If this scenario has not changed then the countries has to suffer from the high rates of illiteracy. And 50 million children are out of school, 1 in 2 lives in sub Saharan countries, 1 / 2 either start late or drop out of school.
If it is not resolved now the next generation should face Poverty, inequalities in incomes and unstable and poor paid jobs.
