In United kingdom, smoking has been the leading cause of deaths in recent years. Reports show that every year more than 100,000 people die due to smoking.
Usually a cigarette comprises of 4000 chemicals and on an average, men smokes 14 cigarettes per day when compared to women who smoke 12 cigarettes a day. Smoking results in several diseases and every year over 25,000 people die with lung disease that occurs due to cigarette smoking.
Various diseases that are caused by smoking in men and women include lung cancer, cardiovasuclar diseases, blood circulation, ageing, fertility, erectile dysfunction, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and various types of cancer.
It is determined that over 1.4 million individuals in United kingdom are admitted in hospital and more than 5 billion Pounds is spent by individuals for smoking related diseases.
UK Government collects about 11 billion Pounds from the smokers in the form of Excise and VAT (Value Added Tax) of which 84 Million Pounds are spent on stop smoking service.
