Statistical Graphs

The data that is recorded in experiments or surveys is displayed by a statistical graph. The Statistical graphs can be broadly divided into eleven types:

1. Line Graphs: These graphs help in plotting continuous data. These can be used to compare multiple continuous data sets easily.
2. Pie Charts: Pie charts are visually appealing. They show percentage of total for each category.
3. Histogram: These graphs are very useful for showing continuous data.
4. Bar Graphs: Bar graphs are generally used to compare two or three sets of data.
5. Scatter Plot: This type helps in showing the trend in the data and also brings out the relationship between two variables.
6. Frequency Polygon: They are a form of Line graphs and are made by shading the area beneath the graph.
7. Pictograph: Icons are used to represent a quantity of data value. A key is a must in a Pictograph. It is very easy to read and is best used for 2-6 categories.
8. Line Plot: A Line Plot helps in the quick analysis of data. The exact values are retained.
9. Map Chart: Here data is displayed by shading the required sections of a map.
10. Box Plot: This can be used to easily compare 2 or more data sets. It shows a five point summary and outliers.
11. Steam and Leaf Plot: Range, minimum and maximum, gaps and clusters and outliers are easily depicted in this particular type of graph.
