Graph Art

Everyone knows what graphs are and how they have shaped our world. But, have you ever heard of art graphs? If you are a hobbyist into arts and crafts, or even if you are a parent looking for something to do with your children, then this type of graphing is perfect for you. Not only are they a lot of fun, but once you understand the concept, there is no limit to what you can do. The only problem you will then have is coming up with ideas for materials to use! Let’s take a look first at what an art graph is.Simply put, art graphs are pictures that are plotted out on a graph, or paper with vertical and horizontal lines. In elementary school, teachers often use fun activities like an art graph to help children learn how to follow directions, and fun ways to learn about math. For example, a child will see a simple picture on graph paper and in the picture there will be sections that have numbers and letters. They will then have a “key” that tells them every A-1 must be colored red and any C-5′s must be done in blue. When they are done, their art graphs will look like a colored picture.

However, you can an art graph in more complicated settings. A good example of this would be with cross stitching. When you look at a pattern for these, you are looking at an art graph. This pattern shows you exactly which row and column you must put your next stitch.
